🎧 Music
Play music for everyone in a voice channel, with a shared queue. All the music commands are under /music (.music, or .m for short), so they never mix with Last.fm's /nowplaying. The one exception is /play, a shortcut for /music play.
Play something
Join a voice channel and use /music play <song> (.m p <song>), or the shortcut /play <song> (.play <song>): they do exactly the same. You can type a search or paste a link:
- A search looks on YouTube Music first, then YouTube, then SoundCloud.
- YouTube links play directly (videos and playlists).
- Spotify and Apple Music links (songs, albums, playlists) are played from YouTube: Vaqun finds the same song there, since Spotify and Apple don't let bots stream their music.
- SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Vimeo and Twitch links play directly. On SoundCloud, songs from the big record labels are usually encrypted and can't be played; Vaqun then tries the same song on YouTube.
Vaqun joins your channel and plays it. Anything else you ask for goes into the queue. Each song posts a now playing message with buttons: pause/resume, skip, stop, loop, shuffle and queue.
Linked your Last.fm? You can have what you listen to here scrobbled to it: it's off until you turn it on with /lastfm scrobbling on (how it works).
The basics (every server)
/music pause,/music resume,/music skip(.m s),/music stop: stop clears the queue and makes Vaqun leave./music now(.m np): what's playing, and how far in./music queue [page](.m q): what's coming up./music remove <number>takes one song out, and/music clearempties the queue./music volume <1-150>: 100 is the original volume. Each server picks the volume Vaqun starts at.
Vaqun leaves on its own after a few minutes with nothing playing. If everyone else leaves the channel, it pauses and leaves a minute later, unless someone comes back.
Premium
On a server with Premium:
/music loop <off|track|queue>repeats the current song or the whole queue./music shuffleshuffles the queue./music seek <time>jumps to a point in the song, like1:30./music filter <name>applies an audio filter: bass boost, nightcore, vaporwave, 8D, karaoke or soft./music autoplay onkeeps the music going when the queue runs out, with songs by the same artist.- 24/7: Vaqun stays in a voice channel even when nothing is playing, and comes back after restarts. Turn it on with
/music stayfrom the channel (Manage Server needed), or choose the channel on the dashboard. - The queue holds 1,000 songs instead of 100.
With your own Premium, /music playlist save <name> saves what's playing and the queue as one of your playlists, in any server. /music playlist load, list and delete work for everyone, so your playlists stay usable if your Premium ends.
Settings
In the dashboard, open your server and go to Music:
- Who can control the music: everyone in the channel, or only DJs. In DJ mode, anyone can still add songs and skip or remove their own, and whoever is alone with Vaqun can control it. DJs are the roles you pick, plus anyone with Administrator, Manage Server or Manage Channels.
- Voice channels: limit music to some voice channels.
- Starting volume, and whether to post the now playing message.
- Song as channel status (on by default): while music plays, the voice channel's status shows the current song; afterwards, the status that was there before comes back. If someone sets their own status meanwhile, Vaqun leaves it alone. Vaqun needs the Set Voice Channel Status permission for this.
- 24/7 (Premium): the channel Vaqun stays in.
To limit which text channels /music works in, or who can use it at all, add a rule for /music under Command access.
If something doesn't work
- "I can't join" / "I can't play": Vaqun needs Connect and Speak in that voice channel.
- "I'm already playing in…": Vaqun plays in one voice channel per server at a time. Join that channel, or wait until it's free.
- A song is skipped with an error: it may be age-restricted, blocked in some countries, removed, or a big-label song SoundCloud only offers encrypted. Vaqun says why, tries the same song from another source once, and otherwise moves on.
- Vaqun left suddenly: someone disconnected it, or its channel was deleted (Voicemaster channels are deleted when they empty). The queue is cleared when that happens.
