🎞️ GIF maker

Turn an image or a video into a GIF with gif. It fits the upload limit of wherever you use it, making the GIF smaller only as much as it has to.

How

  • Attach an image or a video to .gif.
  • Reply with .gif to a message that has one (a GIF pasted from Tenor or Giphy works too).
  • From the menu: right-click (or long-press) a message → Apps → Make GIF.
  • /gif file: takes the file. /gif and Make GIF also work in DMs and in servers Vaqun isn't in, once you add Vaqun to your account.

PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF and APNG images work, and MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV videos. What a file is comes from its contents, not its name.

Part of a video

Add a start and an end: .gif 5-12, .gif 1:05 1:15, or just a start (.gif 30). Without times, a video starts from the beginning.

What you get

  • Videos: no sound, at most 480 px and 20 frames per second, and at most 10 seconds (longer videos are cut, and Vaqun says so).
  • Images: a still image stays one frame, with its transparency; an animated one keeps its animation and timing.
  • Too big for the upload limit: Vaqun lowers the frame rate, then the size, then the colors, then the length, and says what changed. If even that doesn't fit, it suggests a shorter part.
  • The GIF arrives as a file, as a reply to your message.

Limits

  • Free: clips up to 10 s, 480 px, 20 fps, files up to 50 MB. Premium: up to 30 s, 720 px, 25 fps, files up to 100 MB. The upload limit where you send it still decides the final size.
  • One GIF every few seconds per person, and a short wait between two GIFs in the same server.
